A Geelong man, Joshua Luke Marshall, was today convicted and fined $5,000 for operating a business that transported asbestos waste, without the correct EPA Victoria permit.

In December 2006, 21 year-old Bradley Alford was crushed to death when the Mack truck he was driving went out of control on a steep slope, overturned, and crushed him.

This morning his employer, Orbit Drilling Pty Ltd, became the first company in Victoria to be convicted for recklessly endangering a worker. Orbit was convicted and fined $750,000 under section 32 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004.

Two company directors with nearly 50 years’ construction industry experience were convicted and fined today, after cutting corners led to the death of employee Peter Miller.

Mr Miller died in 2006 when the partially built floor he was working on collapsed after more than 10 tonnes of building blocks were placed on it.
