A heavy haulage company was convicted and fined in the Melbourne County Court yesterday, after a worker was crushed while loading an elevated work platform onto the trailer of a truck.

Redline Towing and Salvage Pty Ltd was fined $130,000 after pleading guilty to two charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004.

A man has died at Werribee after being run over by the trailer of a reversing tractor in K Road* Werribee.

WorkSafe is investigating today’s incident which happened around 12.30pm.

WorkSafe’s investigation is at an early stage, but it is understood the trailer, loaded with cabbages, was being reversed into a loading dock. He died at the scene.

Victoria’s work-related death toll is at the highest point for this time of the year since 2001.

It’s prompted WorkSafe to call on employers and workers to take a zero-tolerance approach to safety issues in the last six weeks of the year.

The death of a man near Mansfield last week took to 25 the number of Victorians who have died in traumatic circumstances at work this year.

Concrete panel supplier, The Precast Company, pleaded guilty in the Dandenong Magistrates Court on Friday 13 November to failing to provide an injured worker with suitable employment as required under Victoria’s workers compensation legislation.

The Court heard that the injured worker was employed as a crane operator when he suffered a crush injury to his finger. He attended Dandenong hospital and 5 days later was certified as being fit for alternative duties.
